How Does Domain Locking Work?

Domain locking is a security setting and is a feature of Top Level Domains (TLD) like .com, .org, .net, etc. The feature is very helpful in preventing any changes made in the domain name by third parties. Any type of changes can be observed otherwise, including changes in ownership details, changes in DNS, the transference of domains between registrars, or changing ownership of the domain. When a domain is locked, even you cannot make any kind of changes until it is unlocked.

It protects your domain name against any DNS modifications and from any unauthorized transfers of our systems to another registrar. Unlocking the domain allows it to be transferred, deleted, and renewed.

Domain locks do not prevent the website from working, it helps prevent the domain from being sold or transferred.

The domains are blocked for a certain period to avoid the misuse of any information regarding domains of the particular site. The operator is thus bound to a sure web address for a specific period after purchasing the domain.

Therefore, a registrar lock is used in the following two conditions;

Immediately after a web address has been bought, the ban goes into effect if the domain is subjected to transfer locking. This applies to all the domains taken from previous owners as well as any new registrations.

In case of deletion of domains, they are secured and locked for a certain period to protect domain operators if they fail to renew. A confirmation email about the deletion will also be sent, and the domain can be restored with a payment fee.

A domain lock period can vary, and a domain transfer is also stopped during this period.

To enable and disable domain lock through Easylinehost’s control panel is a straightforward procedure.

• Log in to our billing system at:  billing.easylinehost.net
• Select from the top ‘My Sites’ → ‘Domains’.
• Click the desired domain, the ‘Options’ -page should open.
• From the left you’ll find a list of domains applications:
  • My domains
  • Summary
  • DNS
  • Edit contact info
  • Registrar lock
• Click ‘Registrar lock’.
• Click ‘No’ and click ‘Send’.
